Woke up to several inches of snow on the ground and blizzard conditions making for a difficult decision - stay or go. Took a couple short hikes up to the Desert View Picnic Area to check out trail conditions - not too bad. Decided to go, so packed up and hit the trail about 12:30 pm. Awesome hike (including the weather) along a ridge in the Laguna Mountains with amazing views of the warm desert some 4200 feet below. Conditions changed constantly all day - brief moments of sunshine intermingled with driving sleet, popcorn snow, freezing rain, and full-on giant snow flakes, 31degrees. So windy at points (55 mph+) that I literally had too lean into the wind to make any forward progress. Passed Ricky (aka Badwater) along the way and arrived at Pioneer Mail around 4pm. The precipitation stopped but another windy night.
