Up at 7am again. The Salem 3 passed by while I cooked breakfast. Caught a glimpse of a couple hikers resting at Fred Creek but for the majority of the day I hiked without seeing another soul. Near MP 36, signs warned of unexploded ordinances from a 2009 crash of a Marine Super Cobra attack helicopter. Stopped at Long Canyon ford to filter water and met a couple from Long Beach, CA getting ready to soak their feet in the stream (her feet were completely covered with blisters). The landscape started to change, with the occasional canyon live oak and Jeffery pine becoming more and more frequent, as I neared the very small community of Mount Laguna. Decided to take a rest day (often referred to as a 'zero' due to the miles covered) to get some good food! Got a room at the Mount Laguna Lodge and feasted on pizza! Yum!
