Day 2: MP 18 to MP 31

March 29, 2014

Hit the trail around 7am and headed down to Lake Morena. Spread some gear out to dry (from the dew last night) while I ate breakfast and filled my water bottles. Ran into the Salem 3 again, loaned them a USB cable and told them I'd get it back a bit further up the trail. Missed an unsigned turn out of Lake Morena and detoured about a mile out of the way. Another beautiful day but a bit on the warm side. Rested in the shade of a Cottonwood tree between a bridge and Cottonwood Creek. The Salem 3 caught up with me and returned the USB cable. On to Boulder Oaks campground where I met Paint Your Wagon (trail name of a thru-hiker from Arizona). Talked for a bit to him and others before continuing under I-8 and up into the Laguna Mountains. Camped on an exposed ridge and was treated to a fairly windy night.
