Interesting time at Whitewater Preserve last night; spent much of it fending off Rocky the raccoon who kept trying to steal my food (particularly my goldfish). Actually had to smack him several times with a hiking pole throughout the night.
Up around 6am for a quick breakfast before heading back to the trail around 7am. Hiked most of the day with Alpaca (Alli's new trail name) through the remainder of the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Very hot day, even at 8am and, as usual, no water or shade. Covered the 8 miles to Mission Creek by 10:30am and it was flowing! Shangrila under a lone shade tree after a cool creek bath! Shared an early lunch there with Jill & Marc and Alpaca; later joined by Leon and New York Matt. The trail followed Mission Creek upstream the rest of the day with more than 20 crossings before eventually running dry. Crossed into the San Bernardino National Forest and made it to MP 235/Mission Creek Trail Camp for a total of 16 tough miles today. Camped with Alpaca, Leon and New York Matt; enjoying the first campfire of the trip.
