Up at 5am and did a final pack check before Bob drove me 40 miles to the trailhead near Campo, CA. Many thanks Bob for everything! Nice weather for the start - cool temps and blue skies.
Started and hiked the first mile with the only other hiker at the trailhead, Corey from Oakland. Passed three older gentlemen from Salem, OR, section-hikers (those hiking the trail in sections rather than all the way in a single season) around MP 9. Hiked 18 miles today, camped on a hill above Lake Morena and joined a while later by the Salem 3. Very pleasant evening, cowboy camped (no tent) under the stars.
